How to connect more machines to a single dust extractor?
When working with wood, you can encounter various shavings, splinters and dust which have to be extracted. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to even see the workpiece. Professional workshops often use dust extractors with one or two 100 mm hose outlets.
What to do when you need to connect more machines and are tired of constant switching of the hose?
We will try to provide some useful tips and tricks on how to make your own dust extraction system.
First, review your inventory, how many machines you have, type of debris (either shavings, sawdust, fine dust, or a combination of all three) and also the size of the outlet. The outlet should ideally be 100 mm in diameter.
How to split the conduit
- Try to keep the hose straight. You can use a support system made of wires or simply two pieces of wood.
- Place the extractor so that the system is as short as possible. The longer the system the bigger the air loss.
- For places that don't require hose flexibility, stretch the house to its maximum length and secure it to prevent movement.
- The branches should be connected at an angle of max. 45°. Connect the branch from above or from the side at an angle of max. 45°, in the direction of the air flow.
- Fit your system with blast gates to increase the efficiency and balance of the whole system. Aluminium gates are ideal since they isolate individual machines and ensure efficient air flow. The slide gate should be facing down.
- Prevent system air loss. A system with air losses is not an efficient one. All transitions should be taped up, don't hesitate to use cable ties as well.
- Connect the wired hoses to each other and to the metal parts of the extractor. This grounds the system and protects it from static electricity which tends to arise when extracting fine dust.
Which extractor is the right one?
The requirement of airflow for a 100 mm system is 1 100m3/h. This is met by the IGM LAGUNA CFlux 3 or a IGM LAGUNA PFlux 3 fitted with a HEPA microfiltration extension for extra fine dust. Remember to properly seal individual parts of the system to prevent air loss and secure proper function of the whole system.
• Efficient two-step filtration technology.
• Extremely effective filtration of 99,7 % @ 0,2-2 microns.
• Cleaning without having to take apart.
• Robust metal design.
• Clever lift system of the waste drum.
• Castor wheels on the extractor and the drum.
• Remote control.
Securely affixed microfilter does not stand in the way of fluent airflow which enhances the performance of the filtration system. The CFlux 3 dust extractor comes as standard with a 1-micron spun bound pleaded filter of 4,5 m2 providing maximum airflow efficiency. Filtration efficiency of 0,2-2 microns @ 99,97 %. Handy crank cleaning system inside the filter prevents clogging and allows cleaning without having to disassemble. The lower part filtration is equipped with a collection bag for fine dust collection.
• Highly efficient two-step cyclone dust extraction technology.
• HEPA Filter with filtration of 99,2 % @ 0,4 microns.
• Semi-automatic vacuum filter cleaning.
• Sound dampening wings protecting the filter.
• Dust container with an optical full capacity indicator.
• Dust drum with vacuum bag hold.
• LED light signals filter clogging.
• LED light signals full capacity.
• Clever lift system of the dust bin.
• Castor wheels on the extractor as well as the dust bin.
• Remote control.
The PFlux 3 is the most efficient extractor in the IGM Laguna Flux range providing unbeatable suction, high comfort and maximum extraction guarantee. Comes fitted with a HEPA filter. Wings protecting the filter are fitted with sound dampening foam that effectively reduces noise.
Anyone can assemble their own system using only a couple of components and their own skill.
However, we recommend to hire a professional should your extraction system be a very large one.
A dust extraction system will help you organize the space in your workshop, won't get in your way and will secure proper cleanliness when working.
1. Elbows for hose 100 mm
Koleno má mírný rádius, který vytváří menší odpor vzduchu a zároveň minimalizuje riziko ucpání potrubí.
Swivel fitting with a ball joint to connect 100 mm dust extraction hoses. Allows mobility and adapts to various workshop designs.
2. Junctions for hose 100 mm
This Junction for hose ducting accessory is manufactured from high-quality ABS plastic and is strong with a smooth internal bore. The outside diameter of the fitting allows for a snug fit into the appropriate size of flexible hose and secured using fixing clips. Available for 100 mm hoses only.
3. Blast gates
Blast gates allow you to control the airflow between a single dust extractor and 2 or more machines. By closing one blast gate and opening another, you can direct the extraction to the machine in use and isolate the others from the system.
4. Fixing clips 100 mm
Double Quick Release 100mm Hose Fixing Clip - These handy hose clips allow the quick changing of a 100 mm dust extraction hose from one machine to another.
Bridge Hose Fixing Clip - A simple steel fixing clip with plastic butterfly handle for speed and ease of use and ideal for most 100 mm hose applications. Especially useful when blockages occur; they can be rectified immediately without the need for a screwdriver. Range 92 – 110 mm.
5. Floor gulpers and sweeps
Floor Clear Gulper Attachment - Gulp up all your shavings and dust with this handy attachment. Simply connect it to a length of 100 mm flexible hose linked into your workshop extractor and clean up!
Floor sweep - The Floor sweeper is a cheap solution for the extraction and cleaning of the floor.
Dust and debris moving inside the plastic extraction hose may cause a build up of static electricity. This can cause a potential fire hazard. Dust extraction systems are a great deal safer if properly grounded using a copper wire to connect the components with a hose and to safely ground the dust collector and the machine.
Ideal for securing flexible hoses onto your ceiling or a wall. Every set contains 5 pieces. Fasteners not included. Practical hooksalso available.
Ideal for light abrasive materials (wood shavings, chips), dust, smoke, etc.
Extensions, cuffs and hose adaptors also available...
Hose cuffs and adaptors
Easily fitted flexible rubber machine cuff for attaching a hose to machinery. One end has a moulded thread that screws directly onto our 100 mm clear hose, the other end of the cuff is a snug fit onto a 102-110mm diameter machine extraction port.
A stepped ABS hose adaptor with 5 different sizes that can form perhaps 2 or more adaptors. Simply cut the section you require with a fine-toothed saw. Diameters are 25 mm, 50 mm, 63 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm (sizes stated are outside diameter).
A quick and neat way of joining two hose lengths together. The hoses need to be secured with fixing clips. Available for 100mm hoses only.
Flexible rubber cuff offers various uses, you can: mount a blast gate onto your machine, mount a 100 mm hose onto a machine or connect two separate pieces of ducting (100 mm) into a slight curve.
