We Donated a Set of Router Bits to the Secondary Technical School of Woodworking and Construction in Krásno nad Kysucou
At the Secondary Technical School of Woodworking and Construction in Krásno nad Kysucou, we showed students the differences in the quality of router bits. We explained the most common routing mistakes, why it is important to understand material behavior, and how much the quality of the cutting tool matters. At the same time, we left the school a set of router bits for practical training.
From a Piece of Iron to High-Tech Tools
On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, we met with 2nd- and 4th-year students from the Woodworking and Furniture Production Operator and Construction Production Operator study programs. We introduced the students to proper routing techniques and showed them professional router bits. Using samples, we demonstrated how differences in the tool affect both its service life and the quality of the cut.
During our lecture, the young woodworkers learned what modern technology can do in a woodworking shop. IGM specialist Miroslav David guided the participants through the world of router bits. He explained to the students, their teachers, and the school principal how to recognize a high-quality woodworking tool - that not all carbide is the same and that the best inserts come from leading European manufacturers such as Tigra and Ceratizit.
What to Use for Routing and How to Do It Properly
The students listened with interest, while the teachers asked plenty of questions and actively discussed the latest woodworking trends with us. We also talked about proper routing technique, which in practice saves both money and headaches.
- When to choose a brazed cutter and when a replaceable-knife cutter is the better option in terms of service and cost.
- What is specific about spiral solid carbide router bits and how to choose the right flute direction when working with solid wood or plywood to achieve a clean edge and effective chip removal.
- We also discussed the king among tools – diamond cutters, which cost more but last a really long time in laminate and MDF, making series production more efficient.
From Theory to Sawdust
Theory is a wonderful thing, but craftsmanship has to be experienced hands-on. To put words into action, we donated a set of the most commonly used brazed IGM router bits to the Secondary Technical School of Woodworking and Construction in Krásno nad Kysucou. The tools did not end up back in the case, but went straight to the school workshop. As part of their practical training, students can now experience for themselves the difference between working with a basic hobby cutter and a professionally sharpened, high-quality router bit.
Workshops Many Professionals Would Envy
After the lecture, principal Ján Palko took us to the place where the scent of wood is strongest: right into the school workshops. The workspace was exemplary in its cleanliness and organization, but it was also very well equipped. Among other things, the students have access to a modern CNC router and an engraving laser. We could even see several IGM machines and accessories in action there.
The students here aren't just making things for the sake of it. The furniture and other wooden products made in the workshops are actually used at the school for their intended purpose. That is exactly the kind of motivation that keeps people committed to the craft: seeing a tangible and useful result of their work.
For us, and we believe for the students and teachers of the school as well, it was a pleasant and inspiring day. We wish the students every success in their work and hope wood never loses its wonderful scent for them.
